Personal History:May and Husband Carl have resided in Red Deer since 1987 when Carl was transferred from Calgary. It was at this time they married at Gaetz United Church. They have a wonderfully blended family that includes Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren!! Carl is now retired while May continues to be out and about as much as ever.

Business Info: May is currently employed at Bethany Care Foundation as a Fund Development Associate for Central Alberta. Bethany Care Foundation is the registered charity dedicated exclusively to accepting and raising funds to support the priorities of Bethany Care Society, a faith-based voluntary, not-for-profit provider of health, housing and community services for seniors and persons with disabilities. Founded in 1945, Bethany provides services to more than 5,400 Albertans in over 100 communities. In Red Deer, Bethany Care Foundation is raising funds to enhance the comfort and quality of life of residents at Bethany CollegeSide Continuing Care Centre and CollegeSide Gardens an affordable supportive living housing complex. The Foundation is seeking donations for the outdoor gardens that feature a patio courtyard, raised gardens for resident use and an “adult playground” with specialized outdoor fitness equipment to improve mobility, co-ordination and balance. Personal History: I was born in Acadia Valley, AB. After graduating from Lakeland College I moved to Lougheed and then to Red Deer in 1999 . Married to husband Rob Clarke (co-owner and former president of the Insurance Brokers Association of Alberta) and have 2 children of my own – a daughter and a son and 2 step-sons.

Business Info: Red Deer based Clarke Insurance Services has recently opened locations under the Clarke banner in Vermilion, Lloydminster and Stettler. Sole practitioner in a general law office with a focus on real estate, wills/estates and family law. I graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary in 2001 and was called to the bar in Alberta and the Northwest Territories in 2002.

Business: Magnacatta British Shorthair Cats

I am a hobby breeder of the most relaxed, amiable breed of cats, the British Shorthair. I have brought in cats from all over the world to ensure we have top championship lines. I was the first British Shorthair breeder in Canada to breed colourpoint British Shorthair kittens. We have Westways and Stonehaven Cats in the pedigrees of in our foundation breeding cats.

British Shorthair Cats come in every colour but our primary focus is currently on British Blues, the traditional colour for Brits. Our kittens tend to have a silvery sheen to their fur and brilliant copper coloured eyes. The length and texture of the fur is their feature.

I moved to Red Deer in 1996 to follow my husband's career path and have made him stay ever since! We love the sense of community that exists here and the thriving family and small business networks that abound on every block. It certainly took us a couple of years to feel like we belonged here, but like everything else in life you get what you put in.

I joined Integrated Financial in 1998. Joining their team was an easy decision. In a highly competitive environment I knew that I wanted to be surrounded by some of the best in the industry, to harvest their energy, experience and professionalism and make it my own. Working with this driven team of professionals has pushed me to achieve the CFP designation and more recently the Elder Planning Counselor EPC) designation. I spent several years on the Independent Achiever's board and see a future in the community supporting all the activities that having a young family involves you in.

Other than working my days are filled up chasing two busy little boys, age 6 and 4. My R&R and escape is almost always with a book and it is seldom that I don't have a stack sitting on the bedside table.

Personal History: In my past working life, I have been a banker for the Bank of Montreal for Seven years, Manager of Subcontractor Accounts for Four Years, and the Business Analyst for Community Futures Central Alberta since October 2008. My working life has seen me in Calgary, Montreal and now Red Deer.

Business Information: Community Futures Central Alberta has been in existence for over 20 years helping entrepreneurs and their businesses through training, loans and community economic development. In my role as Business Anaylst, I train potential entrepreneurs on how to write a good business plan, evaluate their requests for financing and offer guidance and suggestions to existing businesses.

Community Involvement: I am a volunteer soccer coach for the Red Deer City Soccer Association for 3 years. I have also been involved with the volunteer friend program with CARE (the Central Alberta Refugee Effort). In this position I help new comers to the Red Deer area become more accstomed to the Canadian way of life.

Hobbies/Interests: My family, I have a 5 year old (soon to be six) daughter, scrapbooking, photography and card making. I love gardening when the time allows, and love camping but have to admit I'm a fair weather camper!
